Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership for Social Impact

The Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership for Social Impact enables the School to concentrate our efforts on sponsoring greater innovation in leadership program development and delivery, and creating access to significant leadership development opportunities across the community, not for profit, government and business sectors.

The Centre is a strong vehicle for acting on our recognition at Melbourne Business School that we have a significant contribution to make to the development of civil society through our core educational and research offerings in leadership.

The Centre seeks to support indigenous communities by building sustainable leadership capability, assisting leaders to play powerful roles in business and society. We also seek to build greater awareness in non-indigenous leaders of the role they can play in transforming the engagement of Australia's indigenous peoples. Karen Morley recently spoke with Professor Marcia Langton, a leading authority on indigenous issues in Australia, to explore the creation of better connections between business and indigenous communities.

The global financial crisis has created significant uncertainty. Now more than ever, leaders need to stand firm, and maintain their strong sense of purpose toward creating a better future. Dr Robert Burke discusses the reasons why businesses should continue to pursue their sustainability strategies.

In July 2009 the Centre and the Sustainable Enterprise Academy from Schulich School of Business, York University will deliver the Business Leader Seminar. This seminar provides a world class focus on what businesses can do to be both sustainable and profitable.

As part of our focus on sustainability, the Centre recently hosted a presentation by visiting expert Dr Paul Tebo on ‘Sustainable Business Growth'.  This event was well received at the School by a group of 35 business executives, Alumni and students.  Please read more.

The Centre was officially launched on Wednesday 27th August, by His Excellency, Mr Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Security of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

The Prime Minister discussed the importance of education to the development of the Timor-Leste nation. While he himself had not had the opportunity to attend University, his goal was that the current generation of young people would have that opportunity. The School announced three scholarships to be provided to assist Timor-Leste build leadership and management capability. Read more about the launch, view the webcast or photos of the launch.
