2008 Women and Management Dinner

Melbourne Business School's annual Women and Management Dinner attracts in excess of 500 guests and features an address by prominent business women who share their insights and expertise as executives. The event is Victoria’s pre-eminent forum for discussion and insight focusing on leadership, change and diversity in the workplace.

The 2008 Women and Management Dinner explored the leadership role women can take in guiding the social responsibility agendas in their organisations. Laura Hartman and Pera Wells bring a wealth of experience to the question.

Laura Hartman is an internationally acclaimed business ethicist. Professor of Business Ethics and Legal Studies in the Management Department at DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, Laura Hartman also serves as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and as Research Director of DePaul’s Institute for Business and Professional Ethics. Her work focuses primarily on global labor conditions and standards, corporate governance and culture, and the effects of technology on the employment relationship.

Pera Wells was Australia’s first female diplomat to be posted to Africa. She established the Human Rights Section and the Cross-Cultural Program in the Foreign Affairs Department in Canberra and in London she created the first Human Rights Section in the Commonwealth Secretariat. Pera Wells has devoted the last five years to building up a dynamic global network of United Nations Associations and she believes it is women who will play a major role in ensuring this continues to flourish.
