Major Gift Brings New Scholarship
Aug, 2007
A donation by alumnus Ian Kirk has made possible the creation of a new scholarship – the Ian Kirk Award.
Open to PhD candidates from anywhere in the world – they must intend to make an outstanding contribution to human knowledge and society through their research. They will also bring qualities of leadership to the School and a high order ability to articulate the important ideas in their area of interest to a wide range of audiences.
The total value of the Award is $45,000. The Award is open to both Australian citizens/permanent residents and international students commencing a PhD at Melbourne Business School in 2008.
“This is a wonderful gift and sets a new paradigm of philanthropy at MBS. This gift is a powerful catalyst for good outcomes on many fronts. It is an investment in excellence in research and in outcomes - where good ideas and new knowledge can become powerful in the world.” Clare Pullar, Director, Advancement, Melbourne Business School
Fellow classmate of Ian Kirk and member of the alumni advisory committee Jennifer Moltisanti says:
"Philanthropic gestures that enable the pursuit of excellence in academia are rewarding in so many ways not only to the recipient but to the benefactor and the wider alumni community at large. Over the years, Ian's support of the Melbourne Business School has not waned and it is now manifested in the very generous opportunity made available by the PhD scholarship.....an inspiring gesture from a fellow alumnus!"
“I’m proud to be an alumnus of Melbourne Business School which has built and maintained an excellent reputation both in Australia and overseas. This scholarship has been created with the aim of assisting a gifted and able PhD candidate to achieve their potential and simultaneously enhance the reputation of the Melbourne Business School. My inspiration is Aristotle “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”” Ian Kirk (MBA 1998)
