MBS offers an insider's glimpse to radical Australian reform
Jan, 2010
MBS is presenting a new subject that draws on the joint personal experiences of a juggernaut of leading Australian policy architects.
The new subject, ‘Leading Policy Reform' examines how Australia has managed to emerge from the last 15 years in such good economic shape.
Put together by Professor Gary Sampson, our John Gough Chair of International Trade, ‘Leading Policy Reform' will help students to understand the deep inside workings of the Australian economy.
According to dean and director Jenny George, this subject is not just for policy makers, it's also important for any business person who wants to know how policy decisions will affect the economic environment that their business will be operating in.
She says, "It's a live case study about a country that has successfully gone through tremendous economic reforms, presented by lecturers who were actually leading players in the events that they are talking about."
Leading Policy Reform was put together by Professor Gary Sampson, our John Gough Chair of International Trade. Gary was himself a director of the World Trade Organisation.
Co-presenters include:
- Peter Costello - a household name in Australia as a very long serving Treasurer, deputy leader of the Liberal Party and someone who knows the political landscape inside and out
- Ian McFarlane - previously the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia
- Gary Banks - Chairman of the Productivity Commission
- Ian Harper - former Chairman of the Fair Pay Commission, macro-economist and Emeritus Professor of Melbourne Business School
- Allan Fels - previously the Chair of the ACCC (Australia's competition watchdog)
- Ross Garnaut - author of the Garnaut report on Climate Change
Last year, students rated this subject at 4.8 out of 5.0.
